Based in Paris, Masha Vasyukova lived in Texas and London in her mid and late teens. This mixed cultural upbringing resulted in somewhat juxtaposed passions; on one hand, a pursuit of surreal narratives, landscapes and transitory zones, while on the other hand, a strong interest in raw, street culture, cityscapes, hip hop and fast cars. Masha is always in search of cinematic imagery and a study of characters.
Her first short film – the documentary “Woody Before Allen ” – featuring Woody Allen – premiered at Woodstock IFF and went on a tour of festivals around the world, winning the Best Short Documentary award at the American Film Corner during the Cannes Film Festival in 2012. Masha is currently working on a long-term project documenting her research into the Jean Cocteau film, “Coriolan” (1950).
Masha’s commercial clients include a long-term collaboration with Alexander McQueen, and fashion and beauty campaigns for Prada, Graff, Iris Van Herpen, Paco Rabanne, Hermés, Lancôme, Shiseido, Armani, Chanel and Loro Piana. Her editorial work for T Magazine and Interview has featured Brad Pitt, Natalie Portman, Rihanna and Eminem.
