Benn Northover is a director and artist known for creating short films that resonate with emotional depth and visual precision. Northover initially pursued drama at the Stella Adler acting studio in New York, a period in which he also apprenticed to the legendary cult filmmaker Jonas Mekas. His work as an actor in feature films, coupled with his immersion in the independent and experimental cinema movements, have provided him with a deep understanding of the creative possibilities of filmmaking. Reflecting on his acting experience, Northover has spoken about the importance of spontaneity, which has often informed his approach as a director. He has used his insights to direct compelling performances featuring Léa Seydoux, Jodie Comer, Emma Corrin, Idris Elba, Penélope Cruz and others.
Northover has directed music videos for Nick Drake, The The and David Bowie’s Meltdown Festival. He has made a wide range of films for brands including Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Dior, Loewe, Miu Miu, Moncler, Zara, Jimmy Choo, Max Mara and Apple TV. His photographic work has appeared in numerous publications, including Vogue Italia, British Vogue, Dazed, AnOther and Interview. His film and video work has been screened at institutions and galleries around the world, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Venice Biennale and London’s prestigious Serpentine Gallery.
